By Frances Neagley

The Community Clean Team visits a different district of the City each month, coordinating volunteers to sweep streets and sidewalks, tend to neighborhood trees and plants, work on gardening projects and paint out graffiti in parks, schools and neighborhoods all over the district. The District 5 Community Day, including the Hayes Valley neighborhoods, will be Saturday, June 3, 2006 and will kick off from Ella Hill Hutch at 1050 McAllister Street. Volunteers will paint out graffiti, create litter-free zones and tend to trees in the neighborhoods. The event is scheduled to run from 9:00 am to noon. All supplies are provided and lunch is served after the event at the main kickoff site.

The Gigantic 3 program will bring large debris boxes to the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center at 1050 McAllister for this event. Neighbors can drop off bulky items for garbage, recycling or composting. In addition to these items, used motor oil and filters, placed in plastic bags and separated from other items, will be accepted. All household batteries (non-automotive) and intact, unbroken fluorescent bulbs and tubes can be also be brought in for disposal. In addition, Goodwill Industries will be onsite accepting donations for reuse.

Volunteer in the Parks will bring the Community Clean Team to the Hayes Green, at Hayes and Octavia Streets, on Saturday, June 17, 2006 where volunteers will work on gardening and beautification projects at the Hayes Green and along Octavia Boulevard and throughout the neighborhood. This event will also run from 9:00am to noon.
