LET US GROW! Summer Program
By Rebecca Bozzelli
Koshland Park Community Learning Garden, a project of the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group, is offering its first-EVER summer program for the youth to come learn about gardening, community history and the benefits of growing and eating healthy food. This is the inaugural summer and we are very excited to launch this program in the “urban farm” of our neighborhood -Koshland Park.
Let Us Grow! will take place from July 10-21st, 2006 in Koshland Park on the corner of Page and Buchanan Streets, and will provide positive engaging activities for youth between 8 and 12 who otherwise have limited summer opportunities. Urban youth will discover where their food comes from and how they are connected to this food and the global environment. Let Us Grow! will invite special guest chefs to excite the kids about nutritious foods with exhilarating recipes using food they harvest that day. We’ll explore how garden fresh foods help you be healthy while providing the kids with an opportunity to determine how food affects the way you feel. Let Us Grow! will also offer rewarding and educational field trips throughout the Bay Area including a grand finale visit to Green Gulch Farm, Marin County.
