Meeting Highlights
The May meeting will feature a presentation by the Arts Commission of proposed temporary art projects in or near Hayes Green. Please read the detailed article elsewhere in the Voice for more details, and come and learn more about these projects.
Much of the meeting will focus on Public Safety. This is a category that can be as broad as ensuring the sidewalks are in good shape so that our elders aren’t at risk walking to preparing for emergencies (covered in detail at our April meeting) to working with representatives of our criminal justice system to ensure that violence is removed from our neighborhood.
This month the proposed format will be a panel of the City Attorney’s office, SFPD and DA’s office, to explain what neighbors can do for themselves to contribute to safety in our community, and how the agencies can support their efforts. The panel is intended to explain the role of various agencies and how neighbors can work together and access support when needed. We are using the HVNA’s Safety Committee as our model, especially the Hayes/Buchanan Task Force efforts.
There have been many successes in confronting crime in our neighborhood, but many needs remain. Lately there have been many car burglaries in our area (and throughout the City) as well as a rash of burglaries in the business corridor and in several residences. Being aware and alert is the best way to prevent most crime. Please come to the meeting, get better educated, and be an active part of the solution.
