Community Day of Encouragement

Neighbors gathered together at a block party organized on Saturday, Aug 28th. Buchanan Street between Grove and Hayes was closed for an afternoon of festivities including music, horse and pony rides, and a BBQ.

Sandra Bolden, Safety Network Community Organizer for the Northern District, worked with Valley Christian Fellowship and the sponsors to host the recent “Community Day of Encouragement.” The goal of the day was have the children, the elderly and the in-between generations come out of their homes and enjoy a beautiful day in the neighborhood. In a collaborative effort with the event, Hayes Valley Playground across the street featured activities for kids, and the cotton candy machine was a big hit for all. The Urban Services YMCA, Buchanan YMCA, Department of Children, Youth and Families, Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice sponsored this event.
