UC Extension Update

At the July HVNA meeting, members present voted in favor of two resolutions, effectively outlining the organization’s position on the UC Extension site. One resolution was in favor of the nomination of the buildings on the campus to the National Register of Historic Places.
The other resolution contained elements the neighborhood would prefer be included in any potential development of the site. Both resolutions are available on the HVNA website, www.hayesvalleysf.org. Many elected officials have come forward in support of elements of the current development proposal. Each of those officials has also confirmed the importance of a process that allows for community input in any decision, and we look forward to their support in making sure our voice is heard.

San Francisco Western Addition Drill Team Doing Positive Things

“Gathering our youth through positive beginnings” is what these youth members have done. The San Francisco Western Addition Drill Team has been active in our Hayes Valley/Western Addition neighborhood and the Bay Area for the past 3 1/2 years. They have traveled to Los Angeles and Ontario, California with the invitation to perform and compete at a Youth Conference and Competition that is held every summer.

For the year 2006, they have earned 4 trophies! Two were for first place and two for second place, as well as a certificate of honor. A highlight for 2006 is an invitation to perform at a live gospel concert called the “Crave to Praise.” This concert will be video recorded live at the Berkeley Community Theatre on the Berkeley High School Campus.

This special event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at 7:30pm. To all our community supporters, family and friends - save this date! As soon as tickets and more information are available, Ms Ruby will provide an update. We thank you in advance for your support.
