Temporary Art in Hayes Valley!
Historic Miniature Golf Extravaganza

In the next temporary art installation at Patricia’s Green in Hayes Valley, the artist team of Wowhaus has been commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission to create a site-specific public art project that engages community members in a vibrant, participatory installation inspired by the history of Hayes Valley.

Sited on both Parcel L, a vacant lot between Linden Alley and Fell Street, and Patricia’s Green, the Hayes Valley Historic Miniature Golf Extravaganza will be a unique destination:  Wowhaus will create scale replicas of significant Hayes Valley historic buildings and landmarks as elements of a miniature golf course; colorful flags and lights strung along the perimeter will create a festive atmosphere. Every other Saturday, visitors will be invited to join the artists for games of miniature golf using lightweight “wiffle” golf balls. Visitors will also be given a map with historical information that offers a walking tour of the neighborhood, encouraging them to visit the actual sites that are replicated in the mini golf course. The exact dates of the installation are currently under consideration, but we are looking forward to Spring/Summer 2007. This is a project of the San Francisco Arts Commission in collaboration with the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association.

Community input is an important part of this project:  We need your feedback: what places in Hayes Valley are of important cultural, historical or social value?
Please contact the artists for a survey at be@thewowhaus.com.

Wowhaus is the artist team of Scott Constable and Ene Osteraas-Constable; for over a decade, we have created works in the public realm.  Wowhaus explores the common denominators of everyday experience, the central question of how things, places and relationships acquire meaning. We are interested in the social underpinnings of "ordinary" or vernacular forms; in the social networks that sustain and foster community and innovation. Our projects seek to connect communities to their current ecological and societal realities, aiming to strengthen the mutually beneficial potential of each.
