January Meeting
The January meeting will be held at 7pm on January 24th at the First Baptist Church, 7 Octavia Blvd. Topics to be discussed at the meeting include supporting Proposition A, the Parks bond; a recap of our successful Fostering Season; a presentation on congestion pricing; and the upcoming HVNA election in February.
We look forward to seeing you!
Planning Issues
As we go to press, there are upcoming meetings regarding the UC Berkeley Extension Campus (55 Laguna) and Market Octavia Plan, seeking to finalize the City’s position on each of these items. Both will have a huge impact on the neighborhood and the City, and we again urge all our neighbors to make their feelings known to both the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. Even if you have expressed yourself at HVNA meetings and voted on our resolutions, our City officials need to hear from you.
HVNA’s position on the UC Extension campus is reflected in the recent resolution passed by the membership, which is available on the HVNA website. In summary, if the zoning on the site is changed, it must be to NCT only, there must be an increase in open space, the percentage of affordable housing must rise to 40% and there should be no parking on the site reserved for the dental school.
HVNA is supportive of the Market Octavia Plan and the clarity it will bring to proposed developments in the area, as well as the community benefits and affordable housing provisions. More information is available at the Planning Department’s website: www.sfgov.org/site/planning
Make sure your voice is heard!
Safety Committee Update
The Community Response Network (CRN) for the Western Addition is now up and running. If you witness a non-emergency incident that involves young people at risk (particularly minors but also young adults), you can call 415-716-1610 to report it. The CRN has promised to respond within 3040 minutes. One of the goals of the CRN is to assist families to take responsibility for their children and encourage young adults to seek positive alternatives to negative behavior. We’d all like to change negative behavior without criminalizing our young people. Give the CRN a chance to be a positive influence in our neighborhood! And, let the Safety Committee know you called them!
