New Art Installation Coming to Patricia’s Green

The Hayes Valley Art Coalition, (HVAC), co-founded by Madeline Behrens-Brigham and Russell Pritchard, is pleased to announce that it is in the final stages of approval to bring a new art installation to Patricia’s Green in Hayes Valley. A polished steel crouching figure “Koilos” (meaning hollow in Greek) is by local artist Michael Christian. He created Koilos for Burning Man 2007.

Madeline and Russell are both long term Hayes Valley residents and HVNA members. Madeline had a shop, Modernology, next door to Russell’s store, Zonal, in the 500 block of Hayes Street. They formed HVAC in August of 2007. HVAC members are neighbors, merchants and artists. They recognized the need for ongoing art installations and art events at Patricia’s Green, so they sprang into action. It is hoped that the art installations will change at first every six months, then every four months, as they get funding in place and as they network with Bay Area art groups such as Black Rock Art Foundation and Rebar Art Group.
They have met with their next artist, Mark Baugh-Sasaki, who will be creating a site-specific sculpture. A plan is emerging to use the trunks of fallen Golden Gate Park trees – a very exciting prospect, to have fallen trees be used in an art installation. Mark is definitely the artist to do this well! For more information on Mark’s works, check out his website: www.industrialforest.com.

For more information on HVAC and to join in this effort, please contact Russell at his email: russellsf@earthlink.net. HVAC is also sponsoring monthly art shows on the chain link fence next to Patricia’s Green. These shows benefit the art program at John Muir School. Contact Russell if you are an artist and wish to show or if you know any artists. All are welcome. Donations for the sake of art are greatly appreciated.
