John Muir Students Excel!
As noted in the JanFeb issue of The Voice, students from John Muir Elementary School participated in the District-wide PTA Reflections Art Contest. This Art Contest, sponsored by the National PTA, has been a place where students get to show their talents video, literature, visual arts, music composition and other forms of art are encouraged. Local artists Madeline Behrens-Brigham and Russell Pritchard judged the entries and selected two winners from John Muir to go on to the City-wide PTA District contest. And, our two finalists from John Muir have done very well!
We submitted two students’ literature entries. Both writings will appear in the anthology book of all District entries that will be printed and given to each student who entered. Our two finalists competed with many fine students from throughout the City, and they did great!
Shenee Harris Outstanding achievement in literature for 5th grade. Her entry will go on to the state contest.
Kristine Hill Award of merit in literature for the 5th grade.
This is the first time John Muir Elementary School has ever entered this Art Reflections contest, and the kids have proved what we already know our kids are talented and deserve this recognition. We can’t wait ’til next year to see what our kids will enter! We hope we’ll have entries from each class. The contest begins in the Fall, and entries must be submitted by the end of November.
Congratulations to students, parents, teachers, our principal and our PTA. An awards ceremony will be held in mid-April. Contact PTA president Gail Baugh at 265-0546 for details if you’d like to attend.
