Moroccan Festival!
The Hayes Valley Merchants are having a “Two Day” Moroccan Festival Block party, Saturday June 14th, 11 am–9 pm and Sunday June 15th 12 noon–5pm. They will have a Moroccan tent set up all weekend in the vacant lot at Octavia and Linden Streets as well as a tent each day in Patricia’s Green, where there will be a Moroccan tea festival. The event will include lots of entertainers, drum corps from African Outlet, fortune tellers, a henna artist, and more.

Save the Date and Come Celebrate!
Neighborhood Baptist Church, in collaboration with Community Partners United, will host a Community Block Party on Saturday August 16, 2008 from 11 am to 2 pm on Buchanan Street between Hayes and Grove Streets. The street will be closed, and the event will include Free Food, Entertainment, Voter Registration, Health Screenings, Children’s Activities, Community Resources and much more. Upcoming Meetings

Our May meeting will feature a presentation by the League of Women Voters on June 2008 ballot measures. With the contention about Propositions 98 and 99, the possible effect on rent control, restrictions on public programs and eminent domain, we should all be well informed before casting our ballots.

The June meeting will focus on the proposed rebuilding of Hayes Valley Playground in a public private partnership. See details elsewhere in the Voice. We will also consider a proposal from the French American International School to convert the former Harley Davidson dealership on Page Street to an educational venue.

Tentative plans for July call for a review of the Living Street conversion of Linden Street, which is scheduled to be complete by that time. Perhaps we’ll be able to have at least a portion of our meeting there!
