Hayes Valley Playground Renovation Workshop

Saturday afternoon, June 28th there were no computer classes, no cooking classes, no games with Josh, the Recreation Director in the Hayes Valley Playground Clubhouse – instead approximately two dozen community members, young and old, came to the first of three public workshops to be held this summer to provide ideas and talk about what we need in the upcoming renovation of Hayes Valley Playground.

Neighbors told the Trust for Public Land’s design team that they were hoping for a park which would enliven the area and be more welcoming. Many residents expressed frustration about the appearance and features of the clubhouse and the playground, and the need to add landscaping and energy-efficient features to the park. Suggested renovations included a new playground, barbeque and picnic area and new clubhouse.

This summer will be an exciting time for the future of Hayes Valley Playground. The next meeting will provide some options for the community to discuss about the planned renovation based on input the team has received so far. Please come to the next two meetings and remind your neighbors to come. Meetings are scheduled July 17th and August 14th from 7–9pm. Refreshments are provided at each meeting.
