Call for Gardening Volunteers

The last two community gardening events on Partricia’s Green (early November and this past February) had lower than expected turnout. Oddly enough, on both days the weather was perfect for digging in the soil and the small work crews still made a noticeable difference.

The Recreation and Park Dept. allocates a gardener to oversee the volunteers’ activity and is responsible for trucking in all tools, plants and mulch the morning of the event. On February 28, there were six Rec and Park gardening work days throughout our district even as city staff are being laid off.

As coordinator of Patricia’s Green garden days, I need to make a special plea for committed volunteers to attend the upcoming March 28th event. A low turnout in March is likely to result in fewer scheduled events and less opportunity to get down and dirty with your like-minded neighbors.
