Western Addition Beacon Center
Located at John Muir Elementary School and Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School, the Western Addition Beacon Center (WA Beacon), an entity of the Buchanan YMCA, provides quality after-school programming for youth and also serves as a community center addressing the specific needs of the Western Addition community. The WA Beacon serves over 600 youth and families annually – focusing on project based learning, academic alignment of educational standards and behavior management techniques through artistic expression and exploration. The WA Beacon is currently enrolling youth and adults for the following services:

1. Handful Players (@ John Muir ES)- Musical & Performing Arts Program targeting 4th and 5th grade youth.

2. Mid Life Program (@ John Muir ES)- A comprehensive project based program that focuses on providing middle and high school youth the necessary skills to become thriving adults.

3. Hayes Valley Community Center- An after school program specifically designed for youth ages 10-18.

4. ESL Classes for Spanish Speaking Adults- Learn the necessary skills to read and speak simple phrases in English. Child watch is available.

5. Math Literacy Night @ De Avila ES– Facilitated by WA Beacon Center

6. Reading Literacy @ Hayward Rec Connect- Facilitated by WA Beacon Center

7. Nutrition Seminar @ John Muir

8. Freshman Academy Workshop @ Wallenberg HS- Facilitated by WA Beacon Center

9. Thanksgiving Luncheon & Turkey/Food Basket Give-a-Way @ John Muir ES

10. Warm Coat and Toy Drive

11. Western Addition Holiday Event @ John Muir ES

12. Winter Camp
