May Public Safety-Themed Meeting Recap
Thanks to Suppenkuche, Absinthe Brasserie and Bar, La Boulange de Hayes, Patxis Chicago Pizza, Cafe Atlano, Paul K, Kebabs of Hayes Valley, and the Korean American Center for their generous donation of food for the May 27 event with the police, as well as long-time supporter Lynne Winslow who provided the drinks and many of the amenities. Over 120 people joined in a standing room only event for food and a meeting. Even though there was a last minute snub, with the main speaker, Chief of Police George Gascon cancelling 2 days before the event, we had a good meeting.
We appreciate the meeting location provided by the Korean American Community Center. Two Supervisors, Ross Mirkarimi and Bevan Dufty, and six city departments joined many community leaders and the President and Vice President of the Korean American Association of the Bay Area and the San Francisco Consul General of Korea at the meeting. The “Taste of Hayes” was a hit, and helped set the tone for a good meeting.
The #2 in the SFPD, Asst. Chief Jeff Godown, joined Northern Station Captain Ann Mannix and Commander James Dudley in discussing community issues with the residents of Hayes Valley. Western Addition, and Lower Haight. It was a positive meeting with a lot of questions and answers. Too bad Chief Gascon missed the good food and vibes.
The next Public Safety committee meeting is July 12th (due to the previous holiday weekend).
Hayes Valley Playground Neighborhood Oversight Committee (HVPG-NOC) Forming
It may not look like it now, but our new playground and clubhouse will open Fall/Winter 2010. Those neighbors who are interested in providing stewardship for playground activities and the playground, please contact Gail Baugh (g.baugh@sbcglobal.net or 415-265-0546). We’ll meet in early July. There have been lots of ideas floating around like elder activities, little tot activities, after school activities, weekend activities, theater, art, yoga, etc. Waiting to hear from you!!

Youth at Hayes Valley Farm
With a little magic, dreams come true. When the team first starting imagining what was possible at Hayes Valley Farm, creating livelihoods was always at the top of the list and that is exactly what has happened. Three new part-time jobs were created to run Magic Mondays, a day specifically for youth at Hayes Valley Farm. Teachers, day camps, and anyone interested can bring the kids down to the Farm to have fun and learn about soil, plants, and nature. Contact kids@hayesvalleyfarm.com for more info.
